Eligibility for Accommodations

Eligibility for accommodations is determined in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 2009, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the respective implementing regulations. At the University of Miami, eligibility determinations are made by the Office of Disability Services for all undergraduate, graduate, continuing education, and summer scholars students. A student who has received services or accommodations from another institution or agency may not always be eligible for the same services or accommodations at the University of Miami. The submission of documentation does not guarantee accommodations.

A student who is admitted to the University may be eligible for services provided that:

  • The student requests services and/or accommodations from the Office of Disability Services.
  • If requested to do so by the Office of Disability Services, the student provides current, complete, and appropriate documentation.
  • The student needs to participate in a collaborative and interactive process with ODS staff.
  • The student registers with the Office of Disability Services by completing registration forms and all other required forms.
